The Market Boost Is Here - Lower Interest Rates

The announcement that Fannie and Freddie will be taken over by the Federal government has driven the stock market up and lowered the current interest rates. Rates have been impacted positively but the real estate industry will only improve as the existing inventory moves. I suspect that the reduced rates will help motivate some shoppers to become active now and take advantage of the lower rates and home prices.

3.1 Million People Showed Up

It was a hot day on Friday, August 22nd, but that didn't stop us battling the crowds and checking out the 50th Annual Chicago Air Show. It was the first year for the air show to start on a Friday afternoon and I hope they continue the tradition. Living in Old Town, we're so close to North Ave Beach and Oak Street Beach, you have to take advantage of all the city has to offer. Even getting to the air show midday on Saturday we were able to find a great spot in the sand for four people. Some folks really go all out and set up large tents, full-size grills, coolers, chairs, and some even block off an area with caution tape. It's a great place to bring the kids and enjoy the excitement of the Chicago Air Show. If you didn't have a chance to check it out this year, I'd highly encourage you to take the time, even for a few hours to enjoy one of the cool events Chicago has to offer.

Old Town (60610) Schiller Place Town Homes

There are many great features of the Schiller Place town homes in Old Town, 60610, but some of the best features that stand out to me as a home owner in Old Town myself is the fantastic location, 2 car parking and guest parking, and outdoor deck space. Also, the town homes are different sizes, some have 3 bedrooms + den or family room on the lower level, and others have 4 bedrooms + den.
The Schiller Place town homes were built in 1994-1995 and can be accessed on Wells at 1440 N Wells St or 212 W. Schiller.
The most recent comparables closed in 7/2008 and ranged from $760,000 to $935,000. The price will depend on size, parking, and updates.
If you're looking for good square footage, but can't afford a single family home in Old Town, I suggest that you take a close look at Schiller Place!

One of my favorite streets in Old Town, North Park Ave, just south of North Ave and West of Wells. These beautiful single family homes reside on the west side of the street and were built in 1996. Each and every home has a different facade; some looking Victorian and colorful and others have a neutral brick face. All have 4 bedrooms with a small courtyard between the home and the 2.5 car garage.









The home above is one of my favorites because of the Zen feel to the garden and back courtyard. The current owners just redid the front garden, stairs, front door, and back courtyard, and it looks beautiful.


The most recent comparable on this block sold for $1,050,000 in 7/2005. They don't come on the market that often and when they do it's a real treat.
